Master’s Degrees in Teaching Science
Ideal for current and future teachers who want to teach science at a higher level, Master’s degree programs in teaching science focus on improving teaching methods and students’ knowledge base of science at the same time.
The Science Teaching Profession
Employment in teaching is predicted to grow as fast as the average for all occupations, but teaching in sciences and math are projected to grow a little faster. A large number of teachers are expected to retire from now until 2018 which will also improve job prospects for those entering the field. Public school teachers tend to earn more than their private school counterparts, but teacher incomes tend to be low everywhere. Some teachers may receive extra pay for leading extracurricular activities like coaching sports, and teachers with Master’s degrees can command higher salaries.
Earning a Master’s in Teaching Science
Master’s degree programs in Teaching Science combine research in education with teaching theory and science courses. Students learn methods for learning assessment, curriculum design for multiple student populations, and take graduate level science courses. Some programs offer specializations in teaching diverse classrooms in poorly-performing schools. Programs often require applicants to have their bachelor’s degrees in chemistry, biology, physics, or a related field.
